INTERNATIONAL MEETING IN MORESTEL (FRANCE)
10th - 16th OCTOBER 2010
All participants arrived on time in St Exupery airport. Considering the isolation of Morestel, we organized minibus shuttles to carry everybody to their hotel. We knew no Welsh team would come, they mentioned inner problems. Italian team arrived on Monday evening.
We welcomed everybody at school for coffee and biscuits, exchanges of greetings and presents.
French pupils sang the European Anthem, then Romanian and Polish had a go in their own language, then everybody sang together.
Everybody went then to the Mayor’s parlour where we listened to Mr Rival’s congratulations and encouragements.
After a lunch at school, we spent the afternoon in the video-room, where Polish showed us a presentation about their country.
Then Romanians displayed their work on impressionnist painters. (François Auguste Ravier lived iry is alive at every n Morestel). French pupils showed their work about Poland and Romania.
In the morning, we visited Crémieu, a middle age town nearby. Ancient monuments and buildings are in good condition here, history is present at every corner.
After lunch, we went back to school for the Turkish presentation about their country, then Italy explained us their school and grading systems.
There was some time left for a foot visit of Morestel, with its famous tower, now a painting gallery.
Trip to Lyon, with comments of a connoisseur : Mrs Wuillot, history teacher Quartier St Jean, basilique de Fourvières, theatre Romain and place Carnot have no secrets for our guests.
Pupils had an opportunity to talk and exchange points of view.
Trip to Aix-les-Bains, crossing of the lac du Bourget by boat, visit of the abbaye d’Hautecombe
Then we drove on the mont Revard, with its 1500m altitude and 11OO above the lake. The view on the valley on one side and on the Mont Blanc on the other is amazing, except when there are clouds.
A farewell dinner was offered in Chapeau Cornu, an old fortified farm now a school, a hotel and a restaurant.
Pupils went to lessons and teachers met to recap the week and to plan next actions. The minutes of this meeting are on a separate page.
Romanians left in the afternoon, the other participants left on Saturday, we gave them all a lift back to they airport.
